BAKERY SUPERVISOR

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

To assist the Bakery Manager at a hands-on level with production supervision, staff coaching, stock level maintenance, and ordering of materials.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

·         Oversee and ensure hygiene standards in the bakery is maintained according to uniquely prescribed quality standard procedures and methods

·         Assist and guide the bakery team in working out formulas on production for increased production or decreasing in production from different batches

·         Handle disciplinary issues according to the company mandates

·         Delegate and give instructions where necessary

·         Negotiate and liaise with the suppliers on a regular basis to ensure that the company bottom lines are met

·         Update records e.g. waste ,spoiled goods or any bad quality products from the suppliers

·         Assist in weekly reports

·         Must have a basic understanding of how to prepare and bake and also to be innovative

·         Assist with production planning, production schedules, stock level maintenance and materials ordering

·         Work out costings and production formulas

·         Assists in planning staffing roster

·         Supervises and assists with the daily bakery pie production in an organised working space and in other Bakery areas as required

·         Supervises, coaches and assists staff to follow prescribed quality standard procedures to prepare a variety of quality products for freezing or baking

·         Make sure that every product that is produced has a LOT CODE and BATCH NUMBER for traceability when it comes to customer complaints

·         Carries out ad-hoc duties on request to assist other members of the Bakery Team’s production deadlines

·         Able to work shifts as and when required

 

EXPERIENCE:

·         3-5 years baking experience

·         Knowledge of food quality and health and safety systems, standards and compliance

·         Knowledge of business, finance and disciplinary procedures

 

SKILLS:

·         Natural leadership ability

·         Excellent communication skills

·         Knowledge of hygiene, health and safety systems; HACCP/ISO highly advantageous

·         Able to handle high pressure and deadlines

·         Excellent numerical skills

·         Planning and organising skills

·         Ability to make decisions and analyse problems

·         Attention to detail

 

LANGUAGES:

·         English

·         Afrikaans

·         Xhosa advantageous but not required

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Matric certificate

·         Tertiary qualification or training courses in Baking advantageous

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

·         Microsoft Office, especially Excel essential

·         Knowledge of stock control software and the ability to learn to use new software quickly
